I saw this picture on Facebook and for me it really puts life into perspective, so I wanted to add my thoughts.
You see, far too many people are going through life defined by their excuses.
About how making changes is ‘too expensive’, or they ‘don’t have the time’…
How now isn’t ‘right’, or they would rather do it on their own.
And I get it, as in the past I made all of them all myself.
But do you know what I’ve learnt?
All these excuses are just used to justify staying stuck in a situation.
Whether it’s that crappy job, unfulfilling career, unhealthy body, bad relationship, or whatever it may be…
These excuses are routed in fear, out of not wanting to make the decisions we need to make to change the situation we are in.
The reality is though that whether you want to admit it to yourself or not…
The decisions you’ve made throughout your life have got you into the situation you’re in.
And while you can’t change the decisions you made in the past…
If you aren’t living the life you want, then it is the decisions you make going forward that can get you out.
Is it easy? No.
Often it means making choices that push you to the end of your comfort zone, taking risks, investing in yourself or pushing yourself to grow.
But what’s the alternative?
To stay stuck?
To reach the end of your life thinking ‘what if’?
Becoming another statistic who talked about change, but never actually did anything about it?
It’s easy to fall into the trap of complaining about how life is unfair, how you can’t do anything about it or it wasn’t meant to be.
But at the end of the day…
The only one who cares about your excuses…is you.
It’s your life, and you have to live with the ramifications of the actions you take (or don’t take).
Now this may sound like an overly negative post for a Monday, but sometimes we need someone to gave us a shake and wake us up to what we are doing.
Because at the end of the day, what you tolerate, you cannot change…
And every day you waste, is a day you can never get back…
Which is why the harsh reality is you’re running out of time.
And if you don’t do something about this NOW, one day you’ll look back and it will be too late.
So, take a moment, look at this picture and work out where you are at.
Because if that doesn’t motivate you…
Then chances are, nothing else will.
So stop wasting time looking for excuses, waiting for the perfect moment, blaming others or putting it off.
Decide on what you want, and make it happen.
You only get one life and one chance, so start making it count.
